Ravenna Taylor Studio, Lambertville, New Jersey

June, 2015

I am an abstract painter living in western New Jersey, working in oils, watercolor, and collage. This website offers only a sampling of work that is in my studio. Please contact me by email to arrange to see much more work than is herein posted. Remove brackets/spaces from this address: ravenna [@] ravennataylor [.com]

I have lived in the Mid-Atlantic Region, New England, Colorado, the Arkansas Ozarks, and the San Francisco Bay area. My BFA was earned at California College of Arts in Oakland, CA in 1988, with High Distinction. In 2003, I moved from San Francisco to my Lambertville, New Jersey studio, on the banks of the Delaware River -- 40 miles northeast of Philadelphia, 70 miles west of New York City.

Ranging over multiple formats and media,  I engage with pictorial abstraction, employing oil paint, watercolor/gouache, acrylic, or collaged torn works on paper. Color and geometry are the essentials of my language, derived from observation, and informed by my fascination with systems of thought and communication, as found in signage, measures, time pieces, gameboards and maps. However, my most recent works have taken a turn more improvised and dark.

I also sing with Princeton Pro Musica chorus; and I write poetry and post it, along with photos, on my blog, "Lagoon." My poetry has been published by US 1 Poets Cooperative in their annual publication, "Worksheets."
